Changing Tile Roofs
Many people suffer roof leaks and water damage because of broken or shattered roof tiles. Changing tiles can be very expensive, depending on the roofing contractor you hired and the materials used. Roofing repairs require money which, unfortunately, may not be readily available during these tough economic times. What most do not realize is that as long they can find decent tile pieces and a sturdy ladder, they can do the repair themselves.
A do-it-yourself tile roof repair requires some tools. Obviously, you will need roof tiles for replacement, a disc cutter, nails, hammer, measuring tape, sealants, and a putty knife. Other tools are optional, such as timber wedges, wire cutters, and wire ties. Make sure you have the correct replacement tiles as there are many kinds or it will cost you unnecessary damage and additional expenditures.
Once you have the correct replacement tiles, raise the row of tiles immediately above the one that is to be replaced.
You can use a flat pry bar or chisel for this. Make sure that your tool is pointed in the same direction as the roof tiles so that both of the tiles above the broken one are elevated. Use the hammer handle or a couple of softwood edges to support the tiles while you work.

Once you have the broken tile, use a brick trowel to lift the tile up over the baton underneath and slide it down and out.

Press the roof tiles firmly into place by squeezing them gently so that the adhesive spreads out evenly. Let the adhesive dry for 24 hours following the replacement procedure.
